-Defending champ Verona starts as favorite to claim E1 title number two
-Six-round world championship kicks off this weekend in Portugal
With a slightly delayed start to this year’s EnduroGP series, Verona, and GASGAS Factory Racing, have made good use of the extended off-season. Since familiarizing himself with GASGAS machinery through the winter months, Verona has progressively improved his performances and results in the Italian Enduro championship, testing his EC 250F in racing conditions and coming away from the latest round of the series with the overall win!
Aiming for a strong start to his world championship campaign, the current Enduro1 champion knows what it takes to manage a successful season. The 2021 series begins with back-to back events in Portugal and Italy (Andrea’s home event) after which Verona’s plan is to go on the attack, get on the gas, and unlock his raw speed during the business end of the season.
But Andrea won’t be racing alone! Laia Sanz has decided to throw her name into the FIM Women’s Enduro World Championship title fight and go after yet another world title. Don’t worry though trial fans, winning a 14th FIM Women’s Trial World Championship title is her absolute number one goal for 2021, where she’ll compete officially for GASGAS Factory Racing. Returning to EnduroGP is all about personal ambition, passion, and keeping herself busy as one of our ambassadors, representing GASGAS in different championships, on different bikes, and generally having a good time on two wheels!
Andrea Verona: “I feel really excited about the upcoming EnduroGP season. It’s a bit of a later start than usual but this has also been good because it has given me extra time to set up my new GASGAS. It’s been great working with my new team, they’re so professional, and we’re working really well together. We’ve spent a lot of time creating a comfortable set-up on the bike for me and I’ve also worked hard off the bike with my training. We’re now in a really good place ahead of round one. I’ve raced in the Italian Enduro championship to test what we have developed on the bike, and my results got better and better with each race, so we are making great progress, which I know will continue into EnduroGP. I’m looking forward to a full season of racing in 2021. For me, I’m a racer and would like more rounds, but six will be good as it looks like it will include a good variety of terrain. At the opening round, I’m looking for a strong result to build from. Then, as the season progresses, I know my speed will improve and that should put me in a great position for when we reach the final round in France. I’m really excited for the season and I can’t wait to start racing.”
Laia Sanz: “I’m really looking forward to returning to EnduroGP, but after the opening TrialGP event last weekend I know this coming weekend is going to be tough for me because there’s not so much time for me to recover! I’ve done a good amount of enduro training during the last few months, but getting off my trial bike and onto an enduro bike and going straight into world championship competition will be interesting. I know that my speed is good, but I’m not setting any big goals for enduro. My main focus is going after the TrialGP title. I want to enjoy this weekend, and see how I go. No pressure. It’s been some years since I last raced in enduro world championship and I’m looking forward to it.”
