The FIM is delighted to announce details of the inaugural FIM EBike Enduro World Cup that will take place this summer. This innovative competition will be held over two days, 1 / 2 June 2019, as part of the Trophee de France EVTT Enduro at Privas, France in collaboration with the FFM.
The 2019 FIM EBike Enduro World Cup will include two categories:
• Enduro1 (E1): EBike equipped with a motor with a maximum rated continuous power of more than 250W and whose assistance can exceed 25 km/h without exceeding 45 km/h. Minimum age of riders 15 years old.
• Enduro2 (E2): EBike equipped with a motor with a maximum continuous rated power of 250W and whose assistance does not exceed 25 km/h. Minimum age of riders 14 years old.
The format of the 2019 FIM EBike Enduro World Cup will be as follows:
• Saturday 1 June: Administrative and Technical Control / Urban prologue in the centre of the city.
• Sunday 2 June: Administrative and Technical Control / Main race in the surrounding hills.
The main race will include 3 laps of approximately 25km per lap – comprising of the liaison route that will link the 3 special tests, that will vary in length. These will be located in a nearby forest and will incorporate the local rocky terrain that will present its own technical challenges. Overall the course will look to test the EBikes’ technology plus physical condition and skills of the riders.
All riders wishing to participate in the 2019 FIM EBike Enduro World Cup will require an FIM EBike Enduro World Cup Licence and therefore should contact their National Motorcycle Federation for more details.
Jorge Viegas FIM President was suitably delighted to unveil this new event and said: “I am particularly proud to announce the launch of our first EBike competition. Power assisted bicycles and electric powered cycles are not recent products and have long been part of the history of the FIM, as the vintage Indian motorcycle on display in our headquarters confirms. In fact the early motorcycles were much based on a bicycle frame with the addition of an engine, so the story has really returned back to the beginning of our evolution. We are convinced that EBike competitions have great potential and will allow young riders to participate in exciting new races. Also, we will soon announce another EBike competition to take place later this year.”
Jacques Bolle FFM President added: “It will be a true honour for the FFM to host the first ever FIM EBike Enduro World Cup on French soil. Privas will be a great location for this competition and has the perfect terrain to be able to showcase the development there has been in EBike technology over more recent years, and the growing interest and involvement of the more traditional motorcycle manufacturers in this fast evolving and exciting sector of powered twowheel transport and sport. We hope this will mark the beginning of an important new opportunity for the FIM and one that will engage and attract with younger riders who will potentially give rise to a new era of FIM World Champions in the future.”
