4 months was the amount of time that the Moto Club Mazanais had left when they made the decision to replace the British Grand Prix which was originally planned for the September slot… And in 4 months, the group lead by Bastien CONSTANT did a great job of putting together a strong French GP. Let’s take a look back at this 7th round…
On Behalf of BELLINO
This Grand Prix of France hosted a French SX star: Cédric SOUBEYRAS (F)! The Frenchman, who took part in an SX race in Toulouse on Saturday night, really wanted to be present on Sunday. He wanted to ride the Honda ORC bike of his friend Mathias BELLINO (F). For his first Enduro, “SOUB”, without having walked the tests beforehand, finished 8th E2 and 19th EGP. But he wasn’t focused on the results sheet, his goal was above all to ride in the name of BELLINO! A great initiative to show support for Mathias’ at his home GP!
When Greg GILSON and Bastien CONSTANT made the decision to organise this Grand Prix of France, they knew that the task would be difficult but achievable. The two entities, Gils’on Tracks and the Moto Club Mazanais, have brilliantly made the “impossible”, possible. Saturday’s Enduro Sprint race was appreciated by all the riders present as was the Super Straight that closed the first day. The Moto Club also reacted very well to the problems with dust causing danger to the riders on Sunday by proposing a new three-lap Enduro Sprint…
At the end of the weekend, the FIM and ABC Communication wish to warmly congratulate and thank GILSON and CONSTANT for their work!
On the occasion of this Grand Prix of France, we were able to welcome the president of the FFM in the paddock. Indeed, Jacques BOLLE visited the EnduroGP paddock this weekend and was able to see the work done in such a short time by the Moto Club Mazanais. He also handed the trophies out to the EnduroGP podium. Another special guest this weekend was CNOSF (French Olympic Committee) Vice President Jean-Pierre MOUGIN, who came to visit the Championship on Sunday.
This weekend, Ruy BARBOSA (CL – Husqvarna) made history for Enduro as well as Chile as the first Chilean rider to win a World Champion title. He is also the first South American to win a world crown in the discipline. This title has also had a national impact on the other side of the Andes since the Minister of Sports, Pauline KANTOR, was keen to send a message to BARBOSA… But the congratulations go even higher since the Chilean President, Sébastien PINERA, has himself made a speech in honour of the young Chilean hope! This has put this young talent, and Enduro, centre stage in South America.
In addition to the great gesture of Cédric SOUBEYRAS, a lot of actions were put in place during this Grand Prix which was so special for Mathias BELLINO as he is from Vaucluse, the area where the event was held. Indeed, ABC Communication had organised a donations box to collect money to help the World Champion during his rehabilitation, while his friends Gils’on Tracks had produced caps a special “MB69” logo. The money made from the cap sales went directly to Mathias BELLINO. Finally, Fred BOLLEY, present of his brand Airflaps, put his 2000 MX World Champion jersey up for grabs during a raffle. An auction with lots of EnduroGP shirts and memorabilia could be put in place to help him! Every EnduroGP rider and paddock regular had a special thought for BELLINO this weekend.
This weekend, in addition to the EnduroGP of France, the Moto Club Mazanais organised the 25th edition of its “Ronde Mazanaise”, an Endurance race (2 hours solo or 4 hours duet) that took place on Sunday morning. Despite the dust, the 250 registered riders tackled this very famous race in the South of France. At the end of the 2 hours race, it was Thomas CHARISOLI in front of Florian DEURRIEU and Anthony AUBERY while the coupling ROUGON / POUSSEL won the 4-hour Endurance race!
Many riders who have made history in French Motorcycling are from the South of France. And many of them were keen to check out the EnduroGP scene last weekend in Méthamis. Starting with Fred BOLLEY, present with his brand Airflaps. Not to mention the legends of the Supermotard, Stéphane & Boris CHAMBON. As well as Fabrice LECOANET and Livia LANCELOT, the 2008 & 2016 WMX World Champion, who will try to win the World Cup Enduro Women in three weeks in Rüdersdorf and will also participate in the Six Days in Chile!
