KTM Racing and Ivan Cervantes have signed a contract for the much-decorated Spanish Enduro rider to continue with the KTM Enduro Factory Team through the 2016 season.
Cervantes, a Red Bull athlete and also a multiple Spanish National Champion who has spent most of his racing career with KTM, first rode in the WEC World Championship in 2002 and secured his first world title in 2005. He is a four-time World Champion (twice in the E1 class and twice in E3), has finished second four times and third on three occasions.
The Spanish rider and KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer recently signed the contract to extend Cervantes stay with the Factory team at the headquarters of KTM Motorsports in Austria.
Alex Doringer, KTM’s Division Manager Enduro and Rally: “We are very happy to continue to have Ivan in our Factory Enduro Team. He brings with him valuable skills, depth and experience and he is a great champion and ambassador for our sport.”
Cervantes has been absent from the 2015 WEC Championship for some rounds while recovering from surgery to correct a sport-related injury but is now working on his fitness and preparing to return to racing.
One of Cervantes long-term career goals has to been to race international rally and he recently tested with the KTM 450 RALLY bike, Doringer confirmed. He said there was also a possibility that Cervantes may contest the Dakar Rally 2016, under the banner of KTM Spain and riding for his own team as an introductory move into this very challenging form of offroad racing.
